Gary Neville names one positive for Man United ahead of Tottenham clash
Man United legend Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho's men can draw one positive ahead of their clash with Tottenham Hotspur next weekend
Gary Neville believes Manchester United can take confidence from Tottenham Hotspur’s poor performance at Old Trafford last season ahead of the two teams renewing their rivalry on Saturday.
Only Manchester City have impressed more than Tottenham in the Premier League over the past month or so as Mauricio Pochettino’s men look to get involved in the title race this season.
Spurs were impressive 4-1 winners against top-six rivals Liverpool at the home of English football last weekend following Harry Kane’s double as well as Son Heung-Min and Dele Alli.
Tottenham hoisted themselves level on points with second-place Manchester United after the Red Devils suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to promoted outfit Huddersfield Town.
Harry Kane has scored eight times in his last eight games to surpass Romelu Lukaku’s tally of six goals.
Manchester United were 1-0 winners against Spurs at Old Trafford in the opening game of the 2016-17 season before Tottenham were 3-0 winners in their final fixture at White Hart Lane back in May.
Former Red Devils defender Neville is taking confidence from Tottenham’s poor performance at Old Trafford last term ahead of Saturday’s fixture despite Pochettino’s men impressing against Real Madrid and Liverpool in their last two games.
“They’re playing against a Tottenham side with great confidence,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“The one thing I would say is that probably the worst time I’ve seen Mauricio Pochettino’s team was at Old Trafford last season so it will be interesting to see them, having gone to the Bernabeu and changed their fortunes around at Wembley.
“If Tottenham play anything like they did today, Manchester United will have to be at their best – they can’t be below.”
