Mark Lawrenson believes Tottenham Hotspur will edge to a narrow win against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Lilywhites will welcome their top-four rivals to Wembley as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to extend their unbeaten run to 12 games.

Manchester United were 1-0 winners against Tottenham at Old Trafford back in October following Anthony Martial’s 81st-minute winner from the bench.

Spurs were considered unfortunate to leave Manchester United without at least a point given the Red Devils’ defensive approach to the Premier League clash.

Jose Mourinho’s side have been in good form over the past month or so following an eight-game unbeaten run in the English top flight despite a sticky patch during the festive schedule.

Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez from Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal earlier this month to bolster their attacking options.

However, former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson believes Tottenham will exact revenge for their loss at Old Trafford when Manchester United make the trip to Wembley on Wednesday night.

“It will be tight, just like it was at Old Trafford in October when Romelu Lukaku flicked on a long ball for Anthony Martial to score a late winner for United,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“But Tottenham are on a good run at the moment and I think they might be the ones who edge it this time.”

Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 12 points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils lost 3-0 to Tottenham in their final game at White Hart Lane back in May 2017 before Spurs’ stadium move.
