Martin Keown admits Tottenham are ahead of Arsenal despite lack of silverware
The Arsenal legend warns Tottenham Hotspur that winning silverware is a must if Spurs are to cement their progress
Martin Keown believes Tottenham Hotspur are ahead of Arsenal but warned Spurs need to win a trophy to cement their progress.
The Lilywhites are in third place in the Premier League table and five points behind current leaders Manchester City and Manchester United.
Tottenham look like being the closest challengers to the Manchester clubs for the title given Harry Kane’s prolific start to the current campaign.
Kane has scored six times in seven Premier League games and has netted 14 goals in his last nine games for both club and country.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to help unlock opposition defences when Kane is having an off day.
Tottenham finished in third place behind Arsenal in 2015-16 before Spurs ended up in the runners-up spot and seven points behind champions Chelsea last term.
Arsenal slumped to a fifth-place finish in the 2017-18 season and have failed to produce the commanding performances that Spurs have regularly produced in the Premier League.
Former Gunners defender Keown believes Tottenham are ahead of Arsenal in the pecking order but need to win a trophy to underline their progress.
“Tottenham are ahead of Arsenal team now. But they haven’t won anything,” Keown told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“That’s my biggest concern. The longer this goes on, there is the risk the team could break up.”
