Harry Redknapp is backing Tottenham Hotspur to get their season “off to a flyer” against Aston Villa at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs will welcome promoted side Aston Villa to north London in pursuit of three points as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to put pressure on their top-six rivals.

Tottenham will play ahead of Arsenal, Chelsea FC and Manchester United, who are all in action in the Premier League on Sunday,

Pochettino has improved his squad this summer with the club record signing of France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Ligue 1 side Lyon as well as Leeds United starlet Jack Clarke.

Their opponents Aston Villa have been the busiest club in the Premier League this season with a staggering 12 new additions to take their spending to £134m.

Former Spurs boss Redknapp is backing Tottenham to make a winning start to the Premier League campaign against Villa in their season opener on Saturday evening.

“Aston Villa were last season’s play-off winners and fully deserve their chance back in the big time,” Redknapp told BetVictor.

“They have been throwing the cash around this summer and made a number of new signings but will have to be careful that they can integrate them into a team that hits the ground running.

“It may take time to gel and a trip to highly-fancied Tottenham looks a tough baptism of fire. Spurs have enjoyed a good pre-season with victories over Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

“Harry Kane netted the winner against the Spanish giants and his goals will be crucial if the North London men are to make any inroads against the big two.

“Despite missing Dele Alli, Tottenham can get off to a flyer and, if they make their stadium a fortress, should enjoy another strong season.”

Tottenham finished in fourth spot in the Premier League last season ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Pochettino’s side managed to reach the Champions League final thanks to a thrilling victory over Ajax in the last four.

However, Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners against Spurs in the Champions League showpiece in Madrid back in June.
