Mark Lawrenson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a straightforward victory over Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will look to get back to winning ways in their mid-week fixture to get their top-four bid back on track with four games to go.

Tottenham suffered a 1-0 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday to suffer a blow to their ambitions of finishing in the Champions League qualification places.

However, Spurs weren’t made to pay for their defeat by their top-four rivals after Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea FC all dropped points in their subsequent fixtures to let Tottenham off the hook.

Pochettino’s side have won all of their games without conceding a goal at their new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since it opened last month.

Their opponents Brighton have failed to win their last five games in the Premier League, including a run of four successive losses before a draw with Wolves.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Tottenham to ease to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brighton on Tuesday night.

“Tottenham have won all three of their games at their new stadium, and it is hard to see them slipping up here,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“It is always a big occasion for Brighton boss Chris Hughton when he goes back to Spurs, where he spent many years as a player and coach, but his Brighton side cannot score a goal at the moment – they have not managed one in their past six matches.

“Spurs have got their Champions League semi-final to think about as well as trying to secure a top-four place, but they look like they should get enough from their remaining games – even without Harry Kane.

“I was at Etihad Stadium on Saturday and, although Tottenham lost to City, they had enough chances to take at least a point.

“I would expect them to have plenty more opportunities against Brighton too. It should be a pretty straightforward evening for them.”

Spurs will take on Dutch side Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals.

Tottenham are in third place in the Premier League table but level on points with Chelsea FC.
