Paul Merson is backing Tottenham Hotspur to claim a 2-1 win over Everton in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday.

Spurs are currently fourth in the Premier League table and have all but secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The Lilywhites – who have lost three of their last five games in the top flight – only have to avoid defeat against the Toffees on Sunday to seal their spot in the Champions League for next season.

Arsenal could match Spurs’ points tally if the Lilywhites lose to Everton and the Gunners beat Burnley, but Tottenham have an eight-goal advantage in terms of their goal difference.

However, former Arsenal star Merson is backing Spurs to claim all three points and secure a top-four finish on Sunday afternoon.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “You’re playing against a good Everton team here, who have turned a corner but they were getting beaten at Newcastle and Fulham a few weeks ago.

“The players probably won’t be thinking of this game but you want to get third.

“I think Tottenham will sneak it, but Everton aren’t as good on the road as they have been at home so I think Spurs will sneak it.”

Spurs head into the final round of Premier League games on a high after having beaten Ajax 3-2 to claim their spot in the Champions League final on Wednesday night.

The Lilywhites will soon switch their attention towards preparing for their Champions League final showdown with Liverpool FC in Madrid on 1 June as they aim to win their first major trophy under Mauricio Pochettino.
