Michael Owen is backing Tottenham Hotspur to claim a comfortable victory over Southampton at Wembley on Boxing Day.

The Lilywhites head into the clash looking to build on their 3-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are aiming to get themselves back into the race for a top four finish after having dropped down the table in recent weeks.

The north London side are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and 21 points behind leaders Manchester City.

However, Spurs are only one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool FC as they bid to try and get themselves back into the race for a Champions League spot.

And former England star Owen can’t envisage Spurs having any problems when they host Southampton at Wembley on Boxing Day lunchtime.

Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Spurs have a great recent record against Southampton, having picked up 25 points from the 10 Premier League games between the sides since the Saints returned to the division back in 2012.

“Mauricio Pochettino’s side have won five of their last six Premier League games at Wembley and I expect them to improve on that record against a Southampton side who are without an away win in their last six Premier League games on the road.”

Spurs, who will return to the redeveloped White Hart Lane in 2018-19, finished second in the Premier League last season as runners-up to Chelsea, but the Lilywhites have struggled to find consistent form this term.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs boss Pochettino will aim to strengthen his squad with some signings in the January transfer window.
