Harry Kane says he is hoping to emulate Andros Townsend’s meteoric rise at Tottenham Hotspur.

The England Under-21 international scored his second Spurs goal against Hull City in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday night, with the north London side eventually winning on penalties.

Townsend, who had been on eight loan spells before impressing at Queens Park Rangers earlier this year, has emerged as a first-team regular at White Hart Lane in recent months.

And Kane hopes to continue to make the most of his chances to impress Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas.

“I think this is a year that I can break through. When you get your chances you have to take them and tell the gaffer what you can do and hopefully I did that against Hull,” Kane is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.

“Andros has done excellent this season, played for the seniors and pushed on. Loan spells are an important part of your career and good experience at times like this when you are there to be called upon.

“It is very important (home-grown players) they get the chance to show what they can do. A lot of young players coming through the ranks don’t get a chance. They bring other players in. It fizzles out.

“If you are doing the right stuff in training it is important that you can show what you can do.

“We have a lot of competition, players like Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado, Jermain Defoe and me. Everyone is fighting for places. The gaffer has a lot of good choices there and I am happy to be part of it.”
