Novak Djokovic has branded the US Open’s ‘Super Saturday’ scheduling as “ridiculous” ahead of his final showdown against Andy Murray on Monday.

The New York tournament’s schedule sees the two men’s semi-finals and women’s singles final played on the Saturday, with the men’s final taking place the following day.

This year’s tournament has seen the schedule suffer as a result of extreme weather in New York, with the men’s final now taking place on Monday.

But Djokovic admits he is not convinced by the ‘Super Saturday’ concept, with the three other Grand Slams allowing a day’s rest in between the semis and final.

“I’m not so sure about this Super Saturday,” said Djokovic after his four-set semi-final defeat of David Ferrer. “I really hope that the tournament will consider changing things for next year.

“Eventually playing back-to-back five sets with the top rivals, top guys, I think that’s ridiculous from the players’ perspective.

“I think I’m not speaking in the name of myself only. I think most of the players will agree.

“Every other Grand Slam has a Friday/Sunday last couple of days. This is the only Grand Slam that has Super Saturday. We’ll see what happens.”
