US Open 2014: Johanna Konta rues missed opportunities
US Open 2014: Johanna Konta suffers a straight-sets defeat by Shahar Peer in the first round in New York
Johanna Konta was left to rue missed opportunities after suffering a straight-sets defeat by world No155 Shahar Peer in the first round of the US Open.
Peer sealed a 6-2 6-3 win over the Briton in one hour and 25 minutes on Court 11, as Konta failed to add to her sole Grand Slam victory, which she recorded in New York two years ago.

Konta, who was guilty of 34 unforced errors during the loss, insisted she gave her best, and the 23-year-old is determined to improve her form on the big stage.
“It didn’t go the way I wanted it to,” said Konta. “I had my chances and I just wasn’t able to capitalise on them.
“It was frustrating but she played tough in those points. I felt I gave it my best today and that’s all I can do.
“It’s great being direct acceptance and I’ve very much enjoyed that here and at Wimbledon. But I definitely want to be getting deeper into these tournaments.
“I’ve had a lot of changes come my way this year, a lot of personal things. I just need to keep working hard and trust that the results will come.”
