The prize money total for the 2014 US Open has been increased by 11.7 per cent to a record $38.3m (£22.3m), the USTA has confirmed.
The men’s and women’s singles champions will each earn $3m (£1.74m), a record payout at the year’s final Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows, while the runners-up will both net $1.5m (£844,000).
The total main draw prize money – which includes the men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles – has increased by 12.5 per cent from 2013.
This year’s doubles champions will receive $520,000 (£302,000) and the mixed doubles champions will earn $150,000 (£87,300).
“Last year to recognise the importance of the players and the key role they have in building our sport, the USTA shared our vision to reach $50m in prize money at the US Open by 2017,” USTA chairman Dave Haggerty said in a statement.
“This year’s prize money increase continues the commitment to make the US Open one of the most lucrative purses in all of sports.”
The 2014 US Open takes place in New York from 25 August to 8 September, with the qualifying tournament beginning on 19 August.
