Viktoria Plzen 0 Man City 3: Edin Dzeko says he is happy to help the Citizens make the "perfect start" to their campaign
Edin Dzeko hailed Manchester City’s “perfect start” to their Champions League campaign after the Citizens were comfortable winners at Viktoria Plzen.
After a tight first half, the Premier League outfit took the lead through Edin Dzeko in the 48th minute, with the striker producing a composed finish.
City, who have failed to win their opening group game in the past two seasons, sealed three points thanks to Yaya Toure’s emphatic strike followed by Sergio Aguero’s 58th-minute goal.
“It’s the perfect start,” Dzeko told Sky Sports.
“We didn’t win our opening game in the past two seasons. Especially away, it has always been difficult.
“Every team is a strong team. Plzen showed in the first half how good they are.”
The Bosnia-Herzegovina international’s place has been under threat in recent weeks following the big-money arrival of Álvaro Negredo in the summer transfer window.
But Dzeko refused to take the plaudits for his role in the win and stressed the importance of having a strong squad over the course of a season.
“It’s very important,” he added.
“I already said it before in pre-season, we have a very good squad with new players.
“They’ve brought a lot of quality to our team. There are a lot of games until the end of the season. Everyone will get the chance to play.”
