Sergio Aguero scored on his return from injury as Manchester City ran out emphatic 5-0 winners against Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup third-round replay.

Alvaro Negredo scored either side of half-time to put the Citizens in charge of the cup tie at The Etihad, before Edin Dzeko netted a brace, and Aguero scored his 19th goal of the season.

City will face Watford in the fourth round, and here is a selection of our favourite Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to Wednesday’s night tie.

Newcastle United youngster Kyle Cameron (‏@Kylecam68) is impressed by City’s in-form Spaniard: “Negredo is a goalmachine!”

Republic of Ireland international Paddy Madden (‏@Paddymadden) reckons Negredo is one of the signings of the season: “Negredo what a signing, top notch he is #GoalsGoalsGoals”

England legend Gary Lineker ‏(@GaryLineker) is his typical sarcastic self on Twitter: “Once Negredo adapts to English football I think he’ll be a real player.”

Ex-Man City striker Darren Huckerby (‏@hucks6dh6) feels for the Blackburn defenders with Sergio Aguero limbering up to make his return from injury: “3-0 down then you see Aguero getting ready to come on, defenders are thinking Shhhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiit #Mcfc”

Olympian Katharine Merry (‏@KatharineMerry) is similarly sympathetic: “Negredo off….Aguero on… Poor Blackburn! #quality #facup… Geez and he scores!! Lol 4-0”

Blackpool striker Nathan Eccleston ‏(@NathanEccleston) is left staggered after Aguero scores within seconds of his introduction: “Two touches, wow Aguero!”

Hull City midfielder David Meyler ‏(@DavidMeyler7) can’t believe Aguero’s instant impact: “1 minute on the field, 2 touches boom goal wowza!!”

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen (‏@themichaelowen) can hear Man City’s title rivals groaning at the sight of Aguero: “What a return to the side! Negredo is class but Aguero returning isn’t a great sight for City’s title rivals […] Emyr Huws makes his Manchester City debut. A proud moment for the team at Michael Owen Management as he is our first lad to feature.”

And here’s one worried Gooner Piers Morgan ‏(@piersmorgan): “City will romp the Premier League with their dazzling army of world class strikers…unless Wenger spends big again NOW. #Afc”

City’s Ivorian star Yaya Toure (‏@Toure_yaya42) loves the manner of his side’s victory – despite his absence from the line-up: “This is how we do it!! Well done City!!”

Finally, rested skipper Vincent Kompany (‏@VincentKompany) praises his team-mates: “Well played to my teammates. We did everything right today. City 5-0 Blackburn. #MCFC #FACup”
