David Moyes believes that Wayne Rooney’s improved form for Manchester United this season is due to the striker finding his “appetite” again.

The England international has been one of the Red Devils’ star performers in an otherwise difficult season for Moyes’s side.

On Saturday he showed what he is about. He has a big energy back again

Rooney has scored 13 goals and made 10 assists in 25 Premier League appearances this season, including both strikes in Saturday’s 2-0 win at West Ham.

And Moyes is hoping that the 28-year-old can play a big part in the Manchester derby clash against City on Tuesday night.

“I don’t know if he’ll be the key man because this game has got many top-class players in it, but he is certainly one of them,” Moyes said.

“His form throughout the season has been very good and his goal against West Ham capped it all off. He has a real appetite back again.

“On Saturday he showed what he is about. He has a big energy back again.

“Everyone who knew Wayne Rooney from old in his early days would say one of the biggest things was that he had big energy and a big heart, and if you get Wayne playing like that, well, the rest of his football takes care of itself.”
