Roy Keane has rubbished Paul Scholes’s assessment that Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has already peaked.
The former United midfielder made the claim ahead of the England’s disastrous World Cup campaign, which saw the Three Lions striker score one goal in three Group D games.

Scholes suggested that the 28-year-old forward peaked during the 2011/12 campaign, with the former Everton man producing a career-best 27 goals for that Premier League season.
However, former United captain Keane, who is Paul Lambert’s new assistant manager at Aston Villa, told Scholes that he was wrong to write off Rooney’s career.
“If you think Wayne Rooney’s gone, then you are sadly mistaken,” Keane is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
Asked to give his assessment of Rooney’s World Cup campaign, the former ITV pundit added: “I thought he did okay.
“There was a lot rolled into his position. England scored two and he got one of them. I’m sure Wayne, like lots of the players, will feel he could have done better. Top players are always quick to look at themselves, they are quite self-critical.”
