Arsene Wenger revealed that Mathieu Debuchy has a bad ankle sprain after the Arsenal defender was forced off during a 2-2 draw with Manchester City at The Emirates.

The France international, who moved to the Gunners from Newcastle United in an £8m deal in the summer transfer window, had to be replaced in the second half of the stalemate.

And Arsenal manager Wenger conceded that Debuchy’s injury looked bad ahead of the north London side’s trip to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“Debuchy has a bad ankle sprain. I don’t know how long he will be out for but it doesn’t look too good,” Wenger is quoted as saying by Arsenal’s website.

The Premier League champions had taken a first-half lead against the run of play through Sergio Aguero, who notched his third top-flight goal of the season.

However, England international Jack Wilshere restored parity with a fine run and finish before Alexis Sanchez’s volley put the Gunners in front in the 74th minute.

Moments later, Debuchy picked up an ankle injury and was replaced by Calum Chambers, and City defender Martin Demichelis netted a late equaliser to deny Arsenal a second win of the season.
