Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Stoke trip
Mesut Özil and Thomas Vermaelen are available for Arsenal but Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs are both doubts
Mesut Ozil and Thomas Vermaelen are back in the Arsenal squad for Saturday’s trip to Stoke City, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
Ozil sat out last weekend’s 4-1 win over Sunderland with a dead leg, while Vermaelen has not played since the 2-0 FA Cup win over Tottenham back in January due to a knee problem.
We had some bad memories from Stoke but we had some good memories as well
Wenger confirmed that the duo would be available for the clash at the Britannia Stadium but revealed that there are doubts over the fitness of defenders Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal.
“Vermaelen and Ozil are back in the squad, we have doubts over Monreal and Gibbs,” said Wenger on Thursday.
“Ozil had a difficult game [against Bayern Munich] and sometimes it’s good to refresh when you are under pressure.”
Wenger, meanwhile, called on his players to focus on producing a good performance against the Potters on Saturday as they look to keep pace with Premier League leaders Chelsea.
“We had some bad memories from Stoke but we had some good memories as well, it’s just down to our performance on the day,” said Wenger.
“Stoke always had good players, let’s not forget they qualified for the Europa League. Mark Hughes has a big experience in the Premier League and has shown he can do well.”
