Harry Redknapp has warned his Queens Park Rangers squad that they can’t “down tools” despite their impending relegation to the Championship.

The Hoops slipped perilously close to the drop last weekend following a 2-0 loss to Stoke City at Loftus Road, leaving the west London side 10 points from safety with four games remaining ahead of their trip to Reading on Sunday.

Despite their imminent relegation from the Premier League, Redknapp is adamant QPR have plenty to play for in their remaining games as the 66-year-old weighs up which members of his squad will prove useful in England’s second tier next season.

“We’ve got to keep going,” said Redknapp. “Obviously it’s a difficult situation but we’ve got to keep playing. We’re not downing tools.

“We’ve trained hard all week and we want to go there [Madejski Stadium] and play well Sunday. It’s important. I’m looking at people with next year on in mind. We’ve got a lot to play for.”

Redknapp also revealed he will sit down with the QPR hierarchy next week and draw up a list of targets ahead of the summer transfer window as he plots how the Hoops can secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

“It’s never over for you. Summer comes but you never switch off,” he added.

“You’re thinking about next year and getting a team that can get us back out of the league. That’s really key.

“Looking at games, looking at people who might make a difference next year who could help us get back to the Premier League where we want to be.

“We’ve got the summer. We have to come up with a couple of right people to go with the players we’ve got and get it right.”
