West Brom 1 Newcastle 0: Alan Pardew concedes that Mathieu Debuchy deserved to be sent off in second half
Alan Pardew admitted that Mathieu Debuchy deserved to be sent off for his rash challenge on Claudio Yacob after Newcastle were beaten by West Bromwich Albion.
The Newcastle defender was given his marching orders by referee Lee Mason in the 62nd minute at The Hawthorns, before the Saido Berahino converted a penalty three minutes from time to seal victory for the home side.
I thought both teams looked a little jaded. There wasn’t that spark to the game
“It was a red,” said Pardew. “You can’t take off with two feet in this division. After that we looked tired and we had injuries. I have no complaints about the penalty [either]. I can’t fault my players.”
Pardew, whose side remain in eighth place in the Premier League table, continued: “West Brom let us have possession and, apart from a few breakaways they had, I thought we would win.
“I thought both teams looked a little jaded. There wasn’t that spark to the game although it opened up a little more in the second half.”
On defender Fabricio Coloccini, who was taken off in the 65th minute, Pardew added: “He has taken a bad knock. He could be out for three or four weeks.”
