“It was a red,” said Pardew. “You can’t take off with two feet in this division. After that we looked tired and we had injuries. I have no complaints about the penalty [either]. I can’t fault my players.”
Pardew, whose side remain in eighth place in the Premier League table, continued: “West Brom let us have possession and, apart from a few breakaways they had, I thought we would win.
“I thought both teams looked a little jaded. There wasn’t that spark to the game although it opened up a little more in the second half.”
On defender Fabricio Coloccini, who was taken off in the 65th minute, Pardew added: “He has taken a bad knock. He could be out for three or four weeks.”
