Paul Merson believes Manchester United will find a way to get past West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils edged to a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Wednesday night to make a swift return to winning ways.

Manchester United lost 2-1 to Premier League title rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford last weekend following goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi.

Jose Mourinho’s men are in second place in the Premier League table but 11 points adrift of the leaders with 21 games to go in the title race.

The 20-time English champions have struggled in the absence of suspended Paul Pogba to raise questions about Manchester United’s lack of creativity.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Manchester United to edge to a 2-0 win against West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday evening.

“I thought Manchester United were the only team that could beat Manchester City but I was embarrassed by them last week, I thought they were atrocious,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“A big team like Manchester United playing at home and just trying to keep the score down. It was really poor.

“But are West Brom going to score a goal? It’s alright changing managers and saying we are going to do this and that, but what’s changed? Nothing.

“Manchester United haven’t been great, and they were poor again against Bournemouth in midweek, but they will have too much for them.”

Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup in Mourinho’s first season in charge at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term after Manchester United opted to concentrate their efforts on the Europa League.

Manchester United signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
