West Ham 0 Chelsea 3: Jose Mourinho says the Blues are where they want to be in the table after their win hoisted them into third
Jose Mourinho insisted Chelsea are where they want to be in the Premier League table after the Blues moved up to third thanks to a win at West Ham United.
Former Hammers youth graduate Frank Lampard broke the deadlock from the penalty spot before Brazil international Oscar netted his fifth goal of the season.
35-year-old Lampard sealed three points with 10 minutes remaining at Upton Park, and Mourinho was very happy with Chelsea’s away performance after a 2-0 loss at Newcastle earlier this month.
“In terms of the table, we are where we want to be,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“Of course we want to try and finish first but we need to be second or third and within in a short distance of first.
“The performance showed that the players understand how to win matches away at difficult opponents, at difficult stadiums.”
He added: “From the first minute, Chelsea looks very solid, very compact and very comfortable.
“Even though we didn’t score in the early stages of the game, we were always in control.
“We identified well the strengths of West Ham and after that, the team was very solid.
“The players played with discipline and objective. We were always aggressive in the way we went to attack. Pressing high and creating difficulties.”
Mourinho added he wants the Blues to improve their run of results on the road after a difficult start spell away from Stamford Bridge.
“The victory is very important. We have to get more points in these five matches away than the previous five – and to start this period with a win away at a difficult place is good for us.”
