Sam Allardyce vented his fury at the decision to allow Robin van Persie’s controversial equaliser to stand after Manchester United earned a point at West Ham.

The Hammers took the lead in the first half through Ricardo Vaz Te’s header but Antonio Valencia tapped home from close range to level before the break.

Allardyce’s men then went ahead again when Mohamed Diame’s stunning left-footed strike beat David De Gea.

But the home side were pegged back in the 77th minute when Van Persie fired home after Shinji Kagawa’s shot rebounded off both posts.

Replays showed that the Manchester United striker was in an offside position and Allardyce was fuming with the assistant referee for denying his side a famous win.

“We played Manchester United and it [would have been] a famous victory for us today,” Allardyce, whose side are 11th in the table on 39 points, told Sky Sports.

“It doesn’t come very often and when you play as well as we did and then the assistant referee takes it away from you…

“It’s a bit difficult to take when that’s their job, to give the offside decisions when they appear in front of them.

“This is a blatant one. He’s straight across the line on the last defender. He can see Van Persie’s two yards offside on our last defender. It hits the post, comes to Van Persie, and he should put his flag up – but he doesn’t.

“Andy Carroll had a shot two minutes into the first half and his flag went straight up. So I don’t know what’s going on.

“You could say if United hadn’t scored then they might have scored from there on. But to draw this game because of a default goal from Manchester United is a bitter pill to swallow.

“It was a fantastic performance by the team, an outstanding performance, in fact.

“The players get rubbished for the type of football they play because of me and I think that’s a disgrace as well because they’ve shown everybody how good they are today.”
