Brendan Rodgers admitted Liverpool are “nowhere near the levels” that he expects his side to be at after an emphatic loss to West Ham United.

The Reds conceded two goals inside seven minutes at Upton Park as Winston Reid rose above the Liverpool defence to head home before Diafro Sakho lobbed goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

England forward Raheem Sterling gave the visitors a foot holding in the east London clash with a low finish past Hammers shot stopper Adrian before half-time.

However, Liverpool couldn’t find an equaliser and miscued header from Mamadou Sakho allowed Morgan Amalfitano to seal three points in the 88th minute.

And Rodgers, who has seen his Reds side lose three top-flight games already this season, conceded that the Merseyside outfit made too many mistakes.

“Overall we never showed the composure that is related to this team. We didn’t start well,” Rodgers told BBC Sport.

“It was disappointing. We knew this would be a tough game but we were 2-0 down before we started. I thought we reacted well but we were risking the game at the end and unfortunately for us it was a day of too many mistakes.

“We’re nowhere near the levels we expect to be at. The expectancy is raised for us after the last few seasons but at this moment in time we are not there. We will continue to work hard. We’ll look to bounce back.”
