Wigan 2 QPR 2: Nelsen sure Hoops can end ‘astonishing’ winless run
Wigan 2 QPR 2: Hoops captain Ryan Nelsen admits their 16-game winless run is "astonishing" after failing to beat Latics
Ryan Nelsen described Queens Park Rangers’ 16-game winless run as “astonishing” after the Hoops failed to beat Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium – but remains convinced Harry Redknapp’s men can turn their season around.
Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy put the Latics in front when his shot deflected off Jamie Mackie and past QPR goalkeeper Rob Green.
However, QPR captain Nelsen rose highest to restore parity in the 26th minute.
Redknapp’s side then looked to have scored the winner when Djibril Cisse fired past Ali Al-Habsi with just 26 minutes remaining.
But QPR’s lead lasted just three minutes, with McCarthy’s shot finding a way through a crowded penalty area and into the west London outfit’s net to rescue a point for the home side and keep the Hoops rooted to the foot of the table on just seven points.
“It’s astonishing to tell you the truth,” Nelsen told BBC Sport.
“There’s not been that many games where we have been out of it. But that’s the fine line of the Premier League. There’s no excuses.
“We’re confident we can get out of it. We feel if we can get one win then we will get two and we’ll get going.”
