Wimbledon 2013: Robson sees serve improvement under Maclagan

Laura Robson believes her serve has already improved under the guidance of interim coach Miles Maclagan as the British No1 looks ahead to Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old, who is currently ranked number 37 in the world, started working with Andy Murray’s former coach on a trial basis earlier this month.

And Robson, who suffered back-to-back defeats by Caroline Wozniacki at the French Open and Eastbourne in the build-up to the SW19 Grand Slam, is pleased with how the pair are getting on.

“It’s only been just over a week. We’re still getting to know each other. It’s temporary for the moment,” said Robson.

“We’ll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. But we’re getting on well.”

She added: “The tennis side of things is going pretty well. My serve is looking a little bit better. And there’s still a couple more days to work on things before my match.”

Robson starts her Wimbledon campaign against Maria Kirilenko, who beat British No3 Elena Batlacha in the second round at Eastbourne on Wednesday.

The Russian is seeded tenth at SW19, but Robson can take heart from her victories over four past Grand Slam champions – Kim Clijsters, Li Na, Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams – over the last nine months.

“She’s playing very good at the moment,” Robson continued.

“She has had some good results this year. It’s going to be tough.

“I just have to go out there with confidence and play my own game and just give everything.”
