WTA Finals 2014: Maria Sharapova qualifies for Singapore
WTA Finals 2014: Maria Sharapova becomes the second woman to qualify for Singapore after Serena Williams

Maria Sharapova has become the second woman to qualify for the WTA finals in Singapore.
The 27-year-old Russian won the French Open in May but failed to add to that Grand Slam success at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Sharapova, who is a five-time Major winner, joins newly-crowned US Open champion Serena Williams in the year-end tournament.
“I am really excited to qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global and to bring the best in women’s tennis to Singapore this October,” Sharapova said.
Sharapova hasn’t won the year-end tournament since beating Williams in 2004, losing in the final to Justine Henin in 2007 before the current world number one beat her long-term rival in 2012.
And the world number six, who has won three titles this year, retweeted the WTA’s Twitter account after sealing her place in the Singapore tournament which starts on 17 October.
