WTA Finals 2014: Petra Kvitova gains revenge over Maria Sharapova

Petra Kvitova admitted her delight after beating Maria Sharapova for the first time in over three years at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Three weeks after losing to the Russian in the Beijing final, the Czech eased to a 6-3 6-2 victory at the season-ending tournament.

Kvitova, 24, now heads into her final round robin match against Caroline Wozniacki on Friday knowing that a straight-sets win will book her place in the semi-finals.

“After the first loss here, I didn’t really feel well and I’m just glad to win my second match and still have a chance of being in the semi-finals,” Kvitova said.

“I think when we played the final in Beijing I found the confidence to play against her again.

“Unfortunately I lost over there but I knew that I had the game to beat her and today was the time to do that.”

Meanwhile, Wozniacki is on the verge of a place in the semi-finals after a straight-sets win over Agnieszka Radwanska. The Dane triumphed 7-5 6-3 to top the White Group with a 2-0 record.
