Michael Owen states his prediction for Young Boys v Man United
The Liverpool FC legend believes Manchester United will beat Young Boysin their Champions League opener on Wednesday
Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to ease to a win over Young Boys in their Champions League opener on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils have bounced back from a difficult start to the Premier League season to build some momentum ahead of their trip to Switzerland.
Manchester United were 2-0 winners against Burnley at Turf Moor before the international break to end a two-game losing run.
Jose Mourinho’s side ended Watford’s perfect start to the season with a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road on Saturday evening.
Manchester United are in eighth place in the Premier League table and six points behind Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC at the top of the table.
The 20-time English champions are meeting Young Boys for the first time in Uefa competitions, having faced their domestic rivals Basel last term.
Manchester United lost 1-0 in Basel after a 3-0 victory over the Swiss side at Old Trafford.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is tipping Manchester United to make a winning start to the Champions League group stage.
“This is the first time Young Boys have reached the group stages of the Champions League and they were thrashed 4-1 by Everton when they last played PL opposition in the Europa League back in February 2015,” Owen told BetVictor.
“United have lost their last couple of Champions League games in Switzerland including 1-0 to Basel back in November. That said I feel Jose Mourinho’s side are running into form and I expect United to win a low-scoring affair.”
Manchester United had opened their 2017/18 campaign with a 3-0 home defeat of Basel thanks to goals from Marouane Fellaini, Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, but were beaten 1-0 in Switzerland in their penultimate fixture. The Basel defeat was the only one of United’s six group games they failed to win.
