Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is making his return to boxing in a blockbuster showdown against Jake Paul.

Chavez Jr and Paul will fight on June 28 at the Honda Center in California, USA and the Mexican has been tipped as ‘The Problem Child’s’ biggest test yet.

Aged 39, the son of legendary boxer Julio Cesar Chavez has only fought twice in the last four years and will need to go back a long way to replicate the best days of his career if he is to beat Paul.

Once a WBC middleweight champion, Chavez Jr will be hoping that he can avoid a repeat of his nightmare defeat in 2019 that forced him to quit in the fifth round.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr booed after being beaten by Daniel Jacobs in 2019

Daniel Jacobs was looking to defend his super-middleweight title against Chavez Jr after the pair were scheduled to fight in 2019.

Fighting at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, the Mexican was the fan favourite in the arena, bringing a large Mexican-American crowd.

His performance was a major disappointment, however, and in the fifth round, Jacobs was awarded the victory as his opponent quit while on the stool.

Chavez Jr claimed it was due to a broken nose but his defeat was met with anger by those in the crowd.

A chorus of boos rang around the arena before fans then began to throw objects in his direction, leading to security guards having to form a makeshift shield so that he could make it out of the stadium.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr accused Daniel Jacobs of dirty tactics

Despite the wave of criticism coming his way, instead of holding his hands up and admitting to defeat, the Mexican decided to double down and accuse Jacobs of fighting unfairly.

Speaking to the media after the fight, he said: “I was getting close but got headbutted above the left eye. Then I had problems because of all the blood. I came over to the corner and couldn’t breathe.

“He elbowed me, and headbutted me. I felt I couldn’t go cause I couldn’t breathe properly. The ref wasn’t calling anything.

“He fought a dirty fight, and didn’t even take a point away. He would have been able to continue doing the dirty work.”
