Ryan Garcia needs to take a break from boxing, according to a Hall of Famer.
On May 2, the superstar went head-to-head with Rolly Romero in a historic event in Times Square, New York, USA.
Going into the bout, Garcia was expected to have far too much for his opponent.
However, when they set foot inside the ring together, that proved not to be the case, with Romero dropping ‘King Ry’, en route to winning via unanimous decision.

After watching Ryan Garcia’s most recent fight, Oscar De La Hoya surmised that the gifted boxer needs to regroup before returning to action.
Having felt the pressure of being at the top level of the sport himself, the Mexican-American knows all too well what ‘King Ry’ is dealing with.
‘The Golden Boy’ told The Ring: “He just got surgery. He’s going to take a look at his shoulder now.
“I actually would like Ryan to think about taking the whole year off, getting his mind straight and comfortable to where he feels good. There is nothing lost for him. He has injuries, and he has to get those fixed.
“But I think more importantly, he has to get his life in order. I’ve lived it, and I am pretty sure everyone is telling him things left and right. He has to take a deep breath, a step back, analyze, and reassess life to put it all in order. It’s just my opinion. I hope he takes the year off.”

According to ESPN, had Garcia emerged victorious against Romero, then the plan would’ve been for the popular fighter to rematch Devin Haney.
‘The Dream’ boxed in the co-main event, beating former unified super lightweight champion, Jose Ramirez, with relative ease.
Alas, after losing last month, the initial winner of the first bout, which was later ruled a no-contest, will have to rebuild.
However, should Garcia heed De La Hoya’s words of wisdom, his big comeback won’t be for a while yet.
