We’ve been fortunate to witness some true boxing pound-for-pound greats over the years.
From the likes of Mike Tyson to two-time undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, the sport has played host to some true athletes.
All of these fighters learned the trade in the amateurs and in some cases, didn’t have good records.
There are also fighters who dominated the amateur scene but then failed to make the step up to the professional world.
One pound-for-pound great did though, and boasts an incredible record.

Gennady Golovkin boasts incredible professional and amateur record
Gennady Golovkin, known better as ‘Triple G’, was a prolific knockout artist throughout his career.
A former two-time unified champion, 37 of Golovkin’s 42 victories were by knockout and the Kazakhstani star only lost twice.
One of those was against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez but he still has a legacy of being known as one of the best pound-for-pound stars of all time.
After retiring in 2022 an incredible stat emerged which revealed across his 42 fights at professional level, he had never been dropped to the canvas.
DAZN also claimed in 2019 that ‘Triple G’ was never dropped in his 350 plus professional fights too.
It’s one of the greatest records ever and it’s hard to imagine it would ever be topped.
What does Gennady Golovkin do now?
Since hanging up the gloves in 2022, Golovkin has remained in boxing.
On 26 February 2024, ‘Triple G’ was appointed as the President of the National Olympic Committee for his home country Kazakhstan.
Later that same year in September 2024, Golovkin became the chair of the World Boxing Olympic Commission and was credited for playing a crucial role of making sure boxing would be at the 2028 Olympics.
