Tyson Fury is one of boxing’s biggest personalities, but also a legend of the sport too.

A heavyweight champion who fought back from his lowest point, the ‘Gypsy King’ has defeated some of boxing’s biggest names in the division, including Wladimir Klitschko, Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte.

His recent double-header clash against Oleksandr Usyk will go down as one of the biggest fights in history, but none will be more iconic than his three fights against Deontay Wilder.

Fury won two of the contests by knockout and the other ended in a draw, with the third and final meeting in 2021 winning Ring Magazine’s Fight of the Year.

Ahead of the third and final fight of the trilogy, Wilder’s trainer revealed what his experience was like when he trained with Fury.

Before facing the ‘Gypsy King’ for the final time, Wilder decided to change coaches and appointed Malik Scott, who still works with the ‘Bronze Bomber’ today.

During an Instagram Q and A session in 2020, Scott was asked about his sparring experience with Fury and revealed that he was forced to quit early after his opponent burst his eardrum.

Scott told a fan: “He was very good and mobile for a big man. Big personality but you could tell he was missing a screw or two for the better if that makes sense.

“The first session we sparred I got hit by a right hook around my guard and it clogged my eardrum up. We boxed eight rounds that day.

“After that we did two more sessions throughout the week and my ear just got worse and worse so I decided enough was enough because I was still an active fighter at the time so I told Peter [Fury’s dad] that would be it for me.

“They paid me my money, gave me a train ticket and I wished them luck and the rest is history, the end.”

Malik Scott claimed that Deontay Wilder has more power than Fury and Mike Tyson combined

The trainer has taken his fair share of punches over the years and is a well-respected former heavyweight champion.

Throughout his career, the ‘Bronze Bomber’ earned a reputation for being a prolific knockout artist and his coach he believes he packs more power in his punch than several legends combined.

Speaking to TalkSport, he said: “His power with 20oz on, it reminded me of a combined force of Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko together, striking and thudding.

“It would be the equivalent to Mike Tyson and George Foreman power if you put it together. Tyson was very rapid, George was very imposing and thudding.

“When you put that together, you have the blessed and gifted power of Deontay Wilder.”
