After Luis Diaz transfer update, Liverpool are looking at Champions League winner to replace him

Liverpool star Luis Diaz is edging closer towards a transfer exit this summer in a potential blockbuster move to Bayern Munich.

The 28-year-old has never appeared fully settled in Merseyside, with noise surrounding a move to Barcelona in the past.

Now, following a whole host of links surrounding an exit, Luis Diaz is seemingly moving closer towards a possible transfer away.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Bayern Munich are preparing a new offer for the Colombian international, while the player is open to leaving Liverpool.

With that in mind, the Reds are seemingly in the market for a potential replacement to Diaz, as one former Champions League winner is on the radar.

Liverpool target Rodrygo as potential Luis Diaz transfer replacement

With Diaz facing a potential exit from Liverpool, the sporting department are working quickly to find potential replacements.

One of the hot topics on the market surrounds the future of Real Madrid star Rodrygo, which remains uncertain.

The Brazilian only made a few appearances at the Club World Cup for Los Blancos and is set for further discussions over his place in the team with new boss Xabi Alonso.

As Real Madrid are up for a potential sale, Florian Plettenberg claims that Liverpool are closely monitoring Rodrygo’s situation.

It’s claimed that the Reds are informed on his situation, which could see them make a move in the coming weeks for the Champions League winner.

Whether it’s one that would suit all parties is another question altogether, though.

Would Rodrygo play less at Liverpool than Real Madrid?

Los Blancos’ strongest front three is generally considered Vinicius Junior on the left, Kylian Mbappe down the middle, and Rodrygo has worked his way in on the right.

Mohamed Salah plays nearly every minute of the Premier League, UEFA Champions League games, and the latter stages of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup ties – and he plays on the right wing.

Liverpool have just agreed an initial £69 million fee to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, so that takes up the second of the three spots.

Rodrygo would, therefore, be in fierce competition with Cody Gakpo for the left-wing spot.

The player’s wish for playing time and Liverpool having to pay high wages and a large transfer fee render this less likely.

But few expected FSG would smash the club’s transfer record, signing Florian Wirtz for £116 million and then spend almost another £70 million on a centre forward.

Therefore, perhaps Rodrygo could have a role competing in his more favoured role soon at Anfield.
