Arsenal have got in contact with West Brom about the possibility of signing their experienced defender Jonny Evans, according to reports in England.

BBC Sport is reporting that the Gunners are interested in bringing the 30-year-old centre-half to the Emirates Stadium in a January deal.

The same article claims that the Arsenal boss is willing to cough up a £25m transfer fee for the former Manchester United defender this month.

According to the same story, Arsene Wenger could look to exploit West Brom’s interest in French defender Mathieu Debuchy in any potential deal to sign Evans.

Manchester City, on the other hand, is looking to sign cover for Belgium international Vincent Kompany given the Citizens captain’s persistent injury problems.

Evans has established himself as a key member of the West Brom side over the past two and a half seasons since his move from Manchester United in 2015.

The Northern Irish defender was sold during Louis van Gaal’s tenure at Old Trafford despite his eight-season career in the Red Devils team.

Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive recruits after conceding 28 times in 22 games in the Premier League this season.

Manchester City are 15 points clear of their closest title rivals Manchester United in the English top flight.
