Arsenal are on the brink of confirming Sokratis Papastathopoulos’ transfer to the Gunners in a £16m deal, according to a report in England.

The Evening Standard is reporting that the Greece international is closing in on a move to Arsenal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the 2018 summer transfer window.

The same article claims that the north London side will spend £16m on the experienced centre-half following talks with the 29-year-old throughout May so far.

Arsenal’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat previously worked at Borussia Dortmund which perhaps explains the recent trend of signing Dortmund stars.

The Gunners spent a club record £56m fee on the Gabon international in the January transfer window to bolster the north London side’s attacking options.

Arsenal brought in former Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a swap deal from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The Gunners finished in sixth place in the Premier League table to miss out on a Champions League spot for the second successive season.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the campaign without a defeat.

The north London side have won the FA Cup three times in the past five seasons.
