Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata isn’t at the same level as his predecessor Diego Costa.
The defending Premier League champions signed Morata in a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid last summer.
Costa scored 20 goals in both of Chelsea FC’s title-winning campaigns under Jose Mourinho and then Antonio Conte.
However, the controversial centre-forward endured a fractious relationship with the Italian head coach to result in his departure.
Chelsea FC loaned Costa to his former employers Atletico Madrid with a view to a permanent transfer at the end of the season.
Morata hit the ground running with seven goals in his opening eight games as a Chelsea FC player.
However, the 25-year-old has struggled with a loss of confidence and a loss of form in recent months to raise questions about the summer signing.
While Carragher believes Morata is a good player, the former Liverpool FC defender admitted that the ex-Juventus striker isn’t as good as Costa.
“I do think Morata is a good player, although it hasn’t quite happened for him for whatever reason,” Carragher told MNF Extra. “But he’s not yet at the level of Costa.”
Chelsea FC were 3-0 winners against West Brom on Monday night to end a two-game losing streak in the Premier League.
The Blues will take on Championship side Hull City in the FA Cup fifth round at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.
