Chelsea will only sign Sergio Aguero if Manchester City manage to complete a deal for Alexis Sanchez this summer, according to expert Gabriele Marcotti.
The Premier League champions have been linked with a surprise swoop to sign the Argentina international over the past week before Chelsea agreed a fee with La Liga giants Real Madrid to sign Alvaro Morata.
Manchester City have been heavily linked with a move to sign Arsenal contract rebel Sanchez since the end of the 2016-17 season.
The 28-year-old has refused to sign a contract extension with the north London club despite having less than 12 months remaining on his current deal.
Arsenal could risk losing Sanchez for nothing next summer if the Gunners opt against cashing in on the Chile international before the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
Speaking to ESPN FC about whether Aguero could move to Chelsea this summer, journalist Marcotti explained what would need to happen to see the Argentina star complete a switch to the Premier League champions.
“The only way this happens [Aguero to Chelsea] is if Man City pick up Alexis Sanchez. It frees up Aguero to move – and maybe he will move to Chelsea,” Marcotti said.
Chelsea finished seven points clear of their closest title rivals Tottenham Hotspur last summer.
The Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Chelsea have signed Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko in the summer transfer window so far, as well as Morata.
