Harry Redknapp believes England should play the Liverpool way after a 2-1 defeat by Uruguay left Roy Hodgson’s side on the brink of World Cup elimination.
The Three Lions had 63 per cent of possession and completed 354 passes but struggled to break down the South Americans as Luis Suarez scored either side of half-time in the Group D clash.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney did end his World Cup goal drought with 15 minutes remaining, but Suarez netted an 85th-minute winner to leave Hodgson’s side pointless at the bottom of the group.
And Queens Park Rangers manager Redknapp feels England should turn to Everton head coach Roberto Martinez or Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers when Hodgson decides to call time on his Three Lions reign.
“Luis Suarez was the difference. Uruguay brought back a world-class player and his goals were fantastic. He is better than anything we have,” Redknapp told BBC Radio Four.
“But it has been disappointing. I think it was an average Italy we lost to last week and last night, against a very poor Uruguay, we got undone. The way we are going you wouldn’t bet against us beating Costa Rica.
“I’m sure Roy Hodgson should continue, he couldn’t have done any more and you can see it was a happy camp.
“We should play the way that Liverpool played last season and when Roy does call it a day there are two young managers up on Merseyside in Roberto Martinez and Brendan Rodgers who are absolutely fantastic.”
