Fernando Torres has reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea and prove himself under new manager Jose Mourinho.
Speculation over the Spain striker’s future has been rife in recent days, with both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid reportedly interested in luring the forward back to his native homeland.
Mourinho confirmed that he will hold talks with Torres over his future when he returns from international duty at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
And the 29-year-old has once again declared his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge following Mourinho’s appointment last week.
“He [Mourinho] will explain to me what he thinks and I will tell him what I feel,” Torres told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I want to stay, to honour the contract I signed, keep doing things right and I want to be the number one in my position again.
“Moreover, I think there is no better place than Chelsea to do that, especially with the arrival of Mourinho. I just think that every striker that has played with him has enjoyed success.”
Torres, who joined Chelsea for £50m from Liverpool back in January 2011, added: “Mourinho has won more than most of us. Now it’s a new challenge for me and I’m looking forward to facing it.
“I don’t think he has a bad relationship with all Spanish people. He left Spain angry with the Spanish media, not the players.”
