Fernando Torres targets Uefa Super Cup success with Chelsea

Fernando Torres is desperate to make amends for last season’s humiliation at the hands of Atletico Madrid and help Chelsea win the Uefa Super Cup in August.

The Blues were torn apart by a rampant Radamel Falcao as the La Liga side sealed a 4-1 victory over Roberto Di Matteo’s men in Monaco last summer.

Europa League winners Chelsea will take on Champions League holders Bayern Munich in Prague in August as Jose Mourinho seeks his first piece of silverware since returning as Blues boss on a four-year deal.

And striker Torres insists that lifting the Uefa trophy is one of the west Londoners’ priorities next term.

“Targets for next season are the Premier League, the European Super Cup, where we have a second chance to win it, and we are back in the Champions League. So we will rest in the summer, and get ready,” Torres told Chelsea’s website.

Speculation over Torres’ future at Stamford Bridge has been rife in recent weeks since Mourinho described the striker’s impact at the club as being “so-so”.

However, the 29-year-old insists that he is looking forward to next season and playing for “one of the biggest clubs in the world”.

“Always the summer is a busy time for rumours and transfer speculation, but it’s an exciting time,” he continued.
“For players it’s a chance to rest and get ready for the next season.

“If you see what Chelsea has done in the last 10 years, winning so many trophies. Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world but we have to keep doing these things.”
