Trent Alexander-Arnold has chosen to exit Liverpool upon the expiry of his contract, which means that Arne Slot has sought after Jeremie Frimpong to fill the void the Englishman has left behind. But was it the right decision?
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been one of the Reds’ key players for some time now, with his attacking prowess often being key to the way Arne Slot’s men score their goals.
While there were times throughout the season when it felt like the defender could be staying at Anfield, it quickly became clear that he had his sights set on moving to Real Madrid.

Jeremie Frimpong looks set to join from Leverkusen – but could someone else have done a better job?
Liverpool should have been all in for Tino Livramento
Tino Livramento would have been an excellent aquistiion for Liverpool.
A report from GiveMeSport shared that while Newcastle are “highly unlikely” to sanction the departure of the Englishman – but he is “appreciated” by those within Anfield. Could he have been swayed?
The former Southampton man has been in fine form for the Magpies this term as he’s played 43 games at both left and right-back while managing to chip in and assist his teammates once.

Livramento is just 22 years old, is much more defensive-minded than Frimpong and would’ve given Slot a different option in defence.
| Statistic | Average completed per Premier League game |
| Tackles | 1.5 |
| Clearances | 2.6 |
| Ball recoveries | 5.1 |
| Interceptions | 0.6 |
He could have also covered for Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson, as he’s often been used at left-back through the 2024/25 campaign.
Vanderson would have also been an option
Another player who has been consistently linked with a move to Liverpool is Vanderson – who could’ve been a potential Trent replacement.
The Brazilian currently plies his trade for Ligue 1 side Monaco and is equally as good in defence or attack.
Much like Frimpong, age is on his side as the right-back is only 23 years old and would be able to provide healthy competition for Bradley if and when needed.
As per a recent report from French outlet L’Equipe, Vanderson is one of Europe’s most sought-after prospects with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham all recently linked with a move for the defender.
While he may have only had seven goal contributions this term, he seems to be far more solid defensively than the likes of Frimpong and Alexander-Arnold which would more than make up for any lack of creativity he may have.
