Gary Cahill insists Chelsea are determined to bounce back from the weekend’s defeat by Newcastle by beating Schalke on Wednesday.

The Blues stuttered to a surprise 2-0 loss at St James’ Park on Saturday as the west Londoners’ six-game winning streak came to an end.

And England international Cahill is keen to help Chelsea respond to the setback by securing a win against the Bundesliga side in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge.

“We’re looking to go out and get a positive result, especially playing at home. It’s a big game,” said Cahill.

“Of course the manager’s going to be frustrated when the result was disappointing, likewise the players. We’re all in it together.

“We had three great results against three massive teams and unfortunately we got a poor result at the weekend.

“As players you want to go straight back out there and put things right. We’ve got to move on and look to bounce back from the weekend.

“I wouldn’t say the wheels fell off. We had three fantastic results against massive teams. It was a dip; the expectation level at Chelsea makes you believe that the wheels fell off but far from it.

“The lads were disappointed after the weekend and we’re looking for a positive result tomorrow, which I’m sure we’ll get.”
