Jose Mourinho praised Luke Shaw for a good performance in Manchester United’s 3-0 win at Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils boss has been critical of the England international in recent weeks following Shaw’s performance in training.
Mourinho questioned Shaw before the Portuguese coach handed the promising left-back a substitute appearance in the second half at Old Trafford mid-week.
While the former Southampton man helped to create Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s equaliser, Mourinho was still critical of the Manchester United defender post-match.
Shaw was named in Manchester United’s starting line-up for the eighth time this season on Sunday afternoon as the Red Devils ease to a 3-0 win over Sunderland.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Shaw’s 61 minutes against the Black Cats, Mourinho said:
“I took Shaw off because of the yellow card and the pressure from the crowd. It was good to protect him but was also good for him to play one hour with a good solid performance and no mistakes, so I’m really pleased for him.”
Shaw provided the assist for Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal in the 46th minute at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon.
