John Terry believes Chelsea need to strengthen with “five or six” players in the summer transfer window ahead of a return to the Champions League.

The Blues won the Premier League title with two games to spare thanks to a 1-0 win against West Brom earlier this month.

Chelsea lifted the Premier League trophy on Sunday as Antonio Conte’s side signed off with a 3-1 win against Sunderland.

The Blues captain bid goodbye to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon after confirming his Chelsea exit earlier this year.

Terry won the Champions League in 2012 when Chelsea beat Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Germany.

Speaking to Sky Sports about what signings Chelsea need to make in the summer, the outgoing captain said:

“With the Champions League and the number of games we’re going to play, I think we really need to strengthen in the transfer window.

“I’m sure the owner will sit down with the manager and discuss that.

“I’d be surprised if there were not at least five or six big players coming in the summer.”

Chelsea have been linked with Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata in the summer, while Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is another reported target for the champions.

The west London side signed five players in the summer transfer window last year following Antonio Conte’s appointment as manager.
