Guillem Balague has claimed that Antoine Griezmann is waiting to see if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League before making a decision on his future.

The France international has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the 2016-17 season after the striker’s eye-catching performances at the European championship last summer.

Griezmann has scored 16 times in La Liga this season to help Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side finish in third place in the Premier League table behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The 26-year-old rated his chances of a move to Manchester United this summer as “6 out of 10” on Monday evening to fuel talk of an imminent move to the 20-time English champions.

Manchester United slumped to a sixth-place finish in their first season under Jose Mourinho despite a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on the final day of the 2016-17 Premier League season.

The Red Devils can still qualify for the 2017-18 Champions League campaign if Manchester United beat Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Speaking to Sky Sports News about Griezmann’s transfer plans, La Liga expert Balague explained the striker’s future could be hinged on the outcome of the final in Stockholm.

“I’ve got the impression if United are in the Champions League, he will join them,” Balague said.

“Manchester United are willing to pay the 100m euros (£87m) for his buyout clause.”
