Daniel Agger has taken to his Twitter page to rubbish speculation suggesting that he wants to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.
The Denmark international has found himself out of favour in recent weeks after the centre-half recovered from a freak rib injury which he suffered whilst training in the club’s gym last month.
Agger was quoted as saying that he would be open to a move away from the Merseyside outfit in January if he was no long part of Brendan Rodgers’ first-team plans amid reported interest from Arsenal.
However, the Dane quashed the rumours via his Twitter on Tuesday morning.
Rodgers appointed Agger as Liverpool’s new vice-captain in August after Jamie Carragher called time on his 16-year Reds career at the end of the 2012/13 campaign.
Barcelona were interested in signing the centre-half during the summer transfer window but Agger reiterated his desire to remain at the 18-time English champions.
And the Liverpool manager praised the Denmark skipper’s attitude at the time.
“He’s very well-respected among the supporters, and ultimately, amongst his peers,” said Rodgers after naming Agger as his vice-captain in August.
“I felt losing someone like Jamie Carragher that it was important that I took my time with the decision. They are totally different characters.”
He added: “He’s very proud to be at Liverpool. I found him true to his word from my first conversation with him as Liverpool manager.
“We’ve had a number of offers for him since I’ve been at the club. He’s commitment is unwavering towards Liverpool. That gave me great faith. He was honoured to be at the club.”
Agger has racked up over 158 Premier League appearances for the Merseyside outfit after joining Liverpool in a £6m deal from Brondby in 2006.
