Charlie Nicholas states his prediction for Liverpool v Southampton

Charlie Nicholas is backing Liverpool to ease past Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds will be looking to secure back-to-back Premier League victories in their quest to secure a top-four finish.

Liverpool were 1-0 winners at Watford on Monday night courtesy of Emre Can’s wonder goal at Vicarage Road.

The 18-time English champions lost 2-1 to relegation candidates Crystal Palace in their last home game.

Furthermore, Liverpool have failed to beat Southampton in three attempts in all competitions this season.

Former Arsenal midfielder Nicholas is confident that Jurgen Klopp’s side will end that record with a victory over the Saints on Sunday.

“I do fancy Liverpool to finish in the top four,” Nicholas told Sky Sports. “They have three games to go and have the points in the bag and are just about there. Southampton could be a difficult one.”

Liverpool eased to victories at Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion before a shock 2-1 loss at Crystal Palace last month.

The Reds haven’t qualified for the Champions League since Brendan Rodgers led Liverpool to a second-place finish in 2013-14.

The Merseyside outfit crashed out of Europe’s premier club competition in the group stage in their disappointing 2014-15 campaign.
