‘Liverpool’s Sturridge & Suárez can emulate great Reds partnerships’

Rob Jones believes Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suárez can emulate great Liverpool strike partnerships from the club’s decorated past.

The Uruguay international has rekindled his telepathic understanding with Sturridge following the 26-year-old’s return from a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in April.

The Liverpool pair were on the score sheet for the second successive week as the Reds secured an emphatic 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday which temporarily hoisted them to the top of the table.

Jones grew up watching Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush carve open opponents, while the former Liverpool right-back played alongside Robbie Fowler and the Welsh legend during the early 1990s.

And the part-time Liverpool youth coach believes Sturridge and Suárez, who have scored a combined 33 goals in 2013, are an exciting proposition.

“It’s looking like it [a great partnership]!” Jones told The Sport Review.

“I know it’s only been a couple of games, but their link-up play together – they seem to read each other’s minds! It’s definitely looking promising.

“I know Rush and Fowler linked up superbly together during their time together – Rush and Dalglish were an even better partnership.

Jones continued: “The next couple of months are going to be interest when everybody is fit to see if he keeps those two together up front.

“If they’re scoring the goals and Liverpool are winning, it’s going to be hard to change.”
