Jose Mourinho has reiterated that he expects Manchester United to continue to meet his “high standards” after the Portuguese coach signed a contract extension until 2020.
The Red Devils boss has put pen to paper on a new deal on Thursday to end speculation linking Mourinho with a potential switch to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain over the past 12 months so far.
Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup during Mourinho’s first season in charge, although Louis van Gaal’s successor was only able to secure a sixth-place finish in the table.
The 20-time English champions have made good progress in the Premier League this season and are in second place but 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City.
The Red Devils are in a strong position to reach the Champions League last eight after the Red Devils were pitted against Spanish side Sevilla in the first knockout stage.
Mourinho is hungry for more silverware at Old Trafford after the perennial winner signed a contract extension which will run for the next two-and-a-half seasons.
“We have set very high standards – winning three trophies in one season – but those are the standards I expect my teams to aim for,” Mourinho told Man United’s website.
“We are creating the conditions for a brilliant and successful future for Manchester United.”
Manchester United will take on League Two side Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night in search of a place in the fifth-round draw.
