Manchester United “don’t need” Daniel James but he will be a player for the future, according to Steve Nicol.
The Red Devils confirmed on Friday that they had agreed a deal with Swansea City to land the 21-year-old midfielder and making him their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they bid to bolster their squad ahead of next season.
James could well be a prospect for the future at Old Trafford, but ESPN pundit Nicol feels that there are more pressing issues that need to be addressed at Manchester United in the current transfer window.
Speaking to ESPN FC, as quoted by the Daily Express, Nicol said: “This is your guy for the future.
“But guess what? Manchester United don’t need guys for the future right now. They need people who can come in and step on the field and make a difference.
“And unfortunately, as good a prospect as Daniel James is, he’s not doing that.
Manchester United are expect to fully confirm the signing of James next week when the international transfer window opens.
The Red Devils are likely to be on the lookout for a host of new players this summer as they bid to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Manchester United finished in a disappointing sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy last term, so it is no wonder that they are being linked with a whole host of players this term.
